Japanese

  • Chef Nobuyuki “Nobu” Matsuhisa’s blending of traditional Japanese dishes with Peruvian ingredients fits right into Doha’s international culinary scene. There are a handful of Nobu restaurants around the world and the Doha location is the largest, a freestanding shelllike beacon on its own pier in the Arabian Gulf. Inside, it is sleek, luxurious and has a spectacular view. It’s a memorable experience from start to finish, from the architecture to the excellent, knowledgeable service. There are many reasons to love Nobu’s signature dish, the black cod in miso—it’s sustainably fished, rich in flavour, silky in texture and deceptively simple. But the miso cod isn’t the only hero of Nobu, and might not even be your highlight. The foie gras shiitake dumplings (on the tapas menu) and the light and flawless whitefish sashimi are unmissable. -recommended by the MICHELIN Guide Doha 2025

The restaurant’s interior, designed by Koichi Takada Architects, draws inspiration from the Inland Sea and Qatari Bedouin heritage. The mesmerizing ceiling features traditional fishing net-inspired designs adorned with over four million suspended pearl-like crystal beads.

BUDGET-FRIENDLY

Turkey Central

  • Turkey Central, run by the fabulous Kizilkaya family since 1988, is an institution when it comes to excellent-quality Turkish food at an extremely reasonable price.
  • Their servings are generous as well, so I am including their delectable mixed grill for QR30 in this piece as it’s definitely enough for two children. The food is even better if you add a delicious serving of hummus or tabbouli at QR9 each (served with piping hot sesame bread).

Afghan Brothers

  • Another gem of a place to eat is Afghan Brothers/Afghan House. Their grilled chicken at QR25 is perfectly chargrilled and generously served on a bed of buhkari rice, along with a side salad and tasty broth.
  • The restaurant is also well-known for their chicken mandy and their “chicken machine,” pronounced “makeena,” which are each QR20.

Tea Time

  • There are several branches of Teatime around Doha all serving some of the cheapest food in Doha. Not always the healthiest menu but their popcorn chicken and sandwiches which can start at 3QAR make a very budget friendly meal in Doha.

Karak Mqanes

  • As a city, Doha runs on karak, and there’s no better place to try it than at Qatari restaurant Karak Mqanes. There’re all kinds of food on offer here, but if you want to try something traditional, opt for something from the breakfast menu.

Amjad Thai Snack

  • Perhaps not a secret to Thai food fans, but Thai Snack is hands-down the best, most authentic, bang-for-your-buck (so to speak) Thai food restaurant in Doha.
  • Their menu is simple and reasonable. If you are looking for something light, I loved the refreshing (and spicy) papaya salad with its punch of lemon juice, which is QR20.

Chapati and Karak

  • For some of the best karak in town, or warm flatbread (chapati) with sweet or savoury fillings, head to this popular tea shop in Katara. Open 24/7 search for long car queues for this café’s famous ginger flavoured karak.

Khaosan Thai Restaurant

  • Fast becoming a cult favorite in Doha for affordable Thai food, Khaosan Thai Restaurant has since expanded since it opened. Aside from the staples, they also offer Thai Hotpot (Jim Jum) where customers can cook their food on a clay pot filled with broth then dip it in the sauces provided. Khao San’s Bubble Milk Teas are quite popular too.

Wagamama

  • is a British restaurant chain inspired by Japanese ramen bars, offering a unique dining experience centered around fresh, Asian-inspired cuisine.

BRD

  • BRD is Qatar’s first rotisserie chicken concept and it is all about simple, feel-good food that you can enjoy any time of the day. We promise this place brings all the crispy and seriously addictive options. And when you walk by the restaurant, and that aroma hits, good luck walking away.
  • They’ve got it all from juicy burgers to the star of the show (yes, that chicken), you’ll want one of everything on the menu.

Chimney Cone

  • Get ready for something super unique – straight from Prague to Doha. This spot is all about handcrafted desserts. They’ve got sweet treats baked into the shape of chimney cones – it’s a mouth-watering concept (and totally Instagrammable).

Ninja Ramen

  • known for its fresh ingredients, big portions, and reasonable prices. They offer a variety of ramen options, including Shoyu, Shio, and Tori Paitan, with customizable toppings and sides. Ninja Ramen also imports noodles directly from Japan.

Tofu House

  • Tofu House is a family-owned restaurant known for its authentic Korean dishes such as kimbap, bulgogi bibimbap, and jjamppong. However, the highlight of the menu is the Korean-style fried chicken available in flavors like garlic, chili, and yangnyeom. Visitors are recommended to try the Yangnyeom Chicken Wings along with other popular dishes like Kimchi Jjigae and Jjam Bbong.

Like in most cities, coffee shops in Qatar also responded to the increasing demand for places to socialize and stepped into a broader, upscale evening social venue.

Here are some noteworthy coffee shops around Doha:

Flat White Specialty Coffee

  • It could be said that Flat White was the café that started the specialty coffee trend in Doha. Now with six branches around the city, it’s a tried-and-tested blend of Instagrammable yet work-friendly spaces, good coffee and a quirky menu. Speaking of food, their brunch menus – featuring vegan and gluten-free options – are a must-try. Check out the Slow and Steady, a savoury stack of sweet potato, seared halloumi, a tangy yogurt topped with a perfectly poached egg. As for coffee, the eponymous flat white, naturally, is front and centre, but the El Majhool – a shot of espresso blended with dates – is a must-try.

NOMAD Coffee

  • The initial branch is located in the pedestrian tunnel between Souq Waqif and Msheireb Downtown, this is a spot for serious coffee lovers. Nomad is a small cafe with a big story. Their Port of Mokha coffee hails from the Al-Durrar region of Yemen which is more than 2,200 metres above sea level. The interiors are all smooth lines, representing the region’s desert. The house blend, Nomad Signature, is rich and a little sweet, you can also try their cold brew and teas. Coupled with views across Doha Bay, making it one of the city’s best breakfast spots, Boho Social serves modern breakfast plates like the signature avo toast with feta and sundried tomato, as well as vegan options like the divine sautéed mushroom and kale breakfast bowl. Desserts are also popular here, made in-house by the acclaimed Dsrt Lab. Coffees include a tiramisu spiced latte alongside your more traditional coffee faves

Doha Roastery

  • With several locations across Doha and even up to Al Khor in the north, Doha Roastery is a cafe for serious coffee lovers. The beans are roasted in-house and sourced from Brazil, Dominican Republic, Ethiopia, Nicaragua, India and Indonesia. The main branch on Salwa Road is worth the trip as it serves a variety of South American snacks, including moreish empanadas and the classic arepas filled with pulled beef or chicken. There is also a small South American grocery section with sweets and other Latin treats. And the coffee doesn’t disappoint – you can sample the different blends and purchase bags of beans.

  • One of the first to plant in the emerging food scene in Lusail, Plan B has all the ingredients for a compelling coffee spot. Located in the iconic Twin Towers (look for the buildings that resemble a Jenga stack), the service is warm and friendly and the interiors Millennial neutral. The terrace during the cooler months has a unique aspect over Lusail city. Meanwhile the coffee menu stretches from the usual cappuccinos and Americanos to the more unusual, like a brulee latte and strawberry matcha. Their French toast is a sweet-lover’s dream, with a little crunch and just enough syrup. The zataar babka is a unique twist on a classic and don’t skip their in-house soft serve ice cream.
